When I initially installed the Gillis valve it spiked similar to what you are describing. (Shot up to 17-18 then dropped to 15.) After consulting Ric Gillis, I took the valve apart, cleaned it with a solvent, reassembed and installed it again. Spiking was gone which means it would boost to about 15 and then hold it. Maybe a PSI or so higher in the upper gears. My valve is almost turned in completly.

He told me to take apart and clean it too, I just havent. Could my stock exhaust be the problem? It's broke, so I can go "disconnect" of the mufflers right now and see if it runs any better. [Image: smile.gif] Could it be choking it?

Mine will hold 15 PSI, it just jumps up higher and stay there for a second, then falls down to 15 PSI. I want to run 17 PSI constant. Yes, I need a real boost gauge. [Image: smile.gif] It almost feels like it pulls harder at part throttle than WOT.

Well, now I have a boost leak or vaccum leak, I guess one of my intercooler hoses split or came loose. I will have to check tomarrow.

if your exhaust is choking it, it could affect boost. if your cat is plugged or pipe is too small, boost can go up until it gets to a point where it can't push it out the back and it gets backed up. I have seen this a lot with the saab turbos. you said you can pull your mufflers? try it. also if you can see into your cat, check and make sure it is clear. just my $.02 from what I have seen with other cars.
Currently birdless, but will get another someday!

That's funny mine has Always felt the same way. And I know it's not an exhaust restriction... I think that may be related to something other than the Gillis valve.

I cant pull my mufflers, I can knock one of them undone though because it's loose. [Image: smile.gif]
It had a split intercooler hose, we put some duct tape on it and put it on upside down so the leak wouldnt be as bad. It was still running like hammered sh!t last night, turned onto the road, almost back to the shop where my friend works and the car died. I tried and tried to crank it, checked under the hood, didnt see anything wrong, checked the fuel pump relay, that wasnt it. We were standing by the car, I said, it could be the timing belt, pulled back on the cover, sure enough, bastard timing belt broke.
We got that fixed tonight, it's gotten colder, so I drove it home and it was pulling pretty good, set the overboost buzzer off a couple times. It still has a leak I guess but not as bad.
