The guy comes out in 30 minutes to look at the car. Thanks for all the good luck wishes! I have everything I need (I hope) to show the guy that the car was ready for painting & that I had fixed everything on the car.

Ryan,

It'd be a real good idea to go to the Doctor and get completely checked out, after all, your neck and back are a little sore, right?

Get some xrays, and you'll have some history to help battle the insurance company for what's right.

Good luck, and sorry for your pain.

Well, I talked to the guy. His estimate is $650 in damage and he said there is a shop right down the road from where I am that can fix it all for me. I'd fix it myself to pocket some money but for $650 it isn't worth my time. I'll just let the shop fix it.

That includes having the bumper and bumper cover replaced & repainted, and fixing a small exhaust problem that happened (the flange for the downpipe thing broke off from the shock).

Either they weren't going 25-35mph when they hit you...or something is rotten in denmark ?

Got a picture of the damage?

I don't have any pictures. The frame doesn't appear to be damaged. The bumper cover is all cut up, the actual bumper underneath is broken in the middle and cracked in a few other places. The support rail things that hold it up look like they were pushed in but came back out (are there springs in those or something?)...

The bumper cover doesn't line up with anything anymore but the quarter panel is fine and the frame rails that go under the trunk are fine. I guess I'll know more once the car is taken apart for repair.

I am quite far from an expert, or having a clue here...

I was rear ended (funny how the RED means stop for some, but not others) 1500 was the initial offer with simlar damage

IMHO, bumper cover replacement, bumper replacement, and bumper shock mounts (opinions vary, but I would have them replaced, there is a spring+friction material, but they have been crushed once.... they may not crush the same way the next time) is headed higher than 650.

None of the parts should be 'used' (if possible) or have to be pieced/welded back together.

The biggest problem I have with their estimate is that it seems to be based on just bolting everything back on, and everything fits.... My experience in this area is that all of the damage is rarely visible, until you have all of the replacement parts and start to put it back together.

What Hruff said + I have doubts you are going to get things match painted for that or even close.

I'll have a good talk with the shop that will be doing the work. I'm driving out that way in a little while and I'm going to stop by. I'm pretty sure the hard stuff like the bumper and shock mounts are going to be NOS. The rest of the stuff is going to be used as far as I know. The body shop they are sending it to has a lot of nice cars out front that they've done (or so I would imagine), so hopefully this will get taken care of the right way.

The guy looked kind of upset when I told him there are NO TC's within a 300 mile radius of here and that I drove to Virginia to buy this one. As far as match painting goes, my mom is gonna help me out and we're gonna try to get the entire car repainted the original color or close to it at least. Except for the bumper, that will of course be out of my own pocket, but after she's all fixed and painted I can almost claim that the restoration is complete!

All I have left to do after paint is refinish the wheels and redo my interior, which is cake. I'll let you guys know whats up with the parts and such. Thanks for all your help!

Hope all is well Ryan.. I remeber when I got rear-ended in my '87.. some woman taking her kid to the grand opening of Toys'R'Us was too busy pointing out the window at Geffry the Giraffe to pay attention to the stopped traffic in front of her.. She completely pushed the front end of her BMW (radiator and all) back into the engine.. my bumper was just scratched (guess she hit me square on.. but needless to say.. I was freaken livid!

Anyway.. I'm rambling.. stick with it! Also might want to make sure they quoted new bumper pistons.. The old maybe re-usable but they'll push in that much further the next time I believe. Good luck!

Also make sure he quoted REPLACING the bumper pistons..

I did ask about them. They are being replaced, I'm almost positive. I'll ask again, never hurts to bother the insurance company by double checking. Big Grin

This lady's radiator was smashed as well as her hood, headlights, etc. She messed her van up pretty good it seems.
