Got a kirban - what to set my fp at?

Ok a little backround here, put the walbro 255hp in last summer when my stocker kicked the bucket. Well I thought I was running rich because my mpg's just went to shit. Fast forward to just a couple weeks ago, as some know Im taking auto tech classes. Well as we were going thru emissions the 4 gas analyzer got broke out and I figure why not see how bad it was. Hydrocarbons never went below like 500-600 and usually were closer to 1000ppm. That was at idle and 2500 rpms. Fuel pressure at this point and time is 40 with vac and high 40's without. I know I should have a wideband, but I need to go on the cheap for a little while longer. Also Im running as high as 18psi. So what would be a good base fp to set to stay safe there, since I have access to a fp gauge for a short time really soon. Thanks guys

I set mine to 39 with the vac reference disconnected, I believe 38-39 is the "stock" setting.

High 40s with vac line disconnected is WAY too high for a nearly stock engine. With HC that high, you are in fact running way rich. Rich enough that I am surprised the CEL isnt on with a code 42. For a nearly stock engine at 18 psi, I would set base pressure (vac line off FPR) to maybe 42 or so psi. You really need a WBO2 to see what the A/F is doing.

Thank you jeff, Thats exactly what I was looking for. A WBO2 is one of the next things Im planning to get, just need to get by for a little bit. When I actually got a gauge on there and then the 4 gas I knew I was way rich, prior I didnt know that the stock regulator wasnt keeping up! I do have one thing going for me thats been helping keep things on the right track and help when needed, Shannon Clark lives about 15 min. from me!!! LOL I need to get back down to his place. Good thing for me is though I only need the car to be my DD for about another month and then its getting lots of TLC.

Well to go along with my running rich just in case it will help some one out. Just scoped my O2 sensor and its junk, failed low like they like to. Got a new one on the way.

My cars always started to freak out above 45psi of fuel pressure.

Adjustable FP is a good deal with a basically stock 2.3T setup.
