hey guys...i recently put my 255lph fuel pump in my gastank(today) i havnt really noticed a difference in the way the car has been running. I though maybe this would stop that weird hesitation problem that i am having, since i dont have a Fuel Pressure guage to check it.(needed a bigger pump anyway) Since i onlt put it in today, do i have to wait a day or 2 in order for the computer to readjust to the bigger pump? i know when my old pump went bad...and i put a new stock one in a few months back...it still acted up really bad for a day or two...then it was fixed after i drove it around like it had to have time to read the new fuel pump or something. Could this be the same thing with this bigger pump i put in? I still have the stock FPR in there....but i just wanted to ask.
thanks for any help on this.

Also...i noticed when i had my fuel tank down, there was some leaves (just a few) that seemed to be at the bottom of the tank...like one or 2 little pieces. the old pump filter also had some dirt in it too...could this have been a problem?? something i can do to fix it?
thanks

There's no waiting time for the new pump. The regulator adjusts fuel needs by boost, airflow etc.
You NEED to clean that tank out IMMEDIATELY! Dirt fouls everything. But you knew that anyway didn't you? [Image: wink.gif]

I doubt that it takes time to adjust to the new fuel pump. Dirt in the tank can be a problem if it plugs up the filter screen. If it gets into the pump, well............ [Image: frown.gif]

The fix: clean the tank.

The hesitation problem: Try running the fuel diagnostics I sent you so you know what you got. Also get a vacuum gauge reading. Hesitation is sometimes due to a vacuum leak.

hey guys, its gonna be next week before i am able to do the fuel diagnostics test(s) on my car [Image: frown.gif] until i get around to doing this...could there be something i am just not checking? PIP and TFI are in good shape...checked them both today...i did check my timing and it was at 14BTDC...not that it wouldnt help...but i thought maybe that could have "not helped any" i guess all i was really asking is until i get my tests run...could you guys offer any more suggestions on what could be causing this problem? the car seems to run great...its just at 15 psi..OR 3000-4000rpm..it starts to jump and cut and choke almost...VAM looks good, have the bigger fuel pump in, and i just went out and bough brand new Motorcraft plugs and wires tonight. I will be putting those in tomorrow..(my others looked ok...but i just wanted to eliminate any questions i had about that. I checked today...and all of this happens around high3000 -4000 rpms. its almost like the timing is off...(as in it feels like the engine is trying to go...but cant) and when all this happens sometimes i get a POP sound...and the car gets really jerky.Also...i dont loose any boost when this happens...didnt know if that would help or not!! Any more ideas from any of you? i just wanted some imput or maybe a few more opinions before i run the tests. ANY help appreciated! OH, and as far as cleaning the tank...its pretty much clean as i could get it. i hate dropping that thing!!!(my new fuel pump filter is clean as a whistle!!!)
later guys!

Zach, initially...you can't really tell if you TFI / PIP are ok just by looking.

I have had the problem you described where it bucks and jerks at around 3,500rpm. I changed my Fuel Pump and it cured it...but I also changed my FPR.

Until you can run some diagnostics it's hard to tell. It could also be a major leak in your air intake piping somewhere ?

The popping sound I assume is a backfire. That would only be from the timing being off or perhaps it's running really rich and you have unburnt gas in the exhaust ?

Zach, how did you test the PIP and the TFI. Like Dan said you can't just look at them.
I have diagnostics and all it takes is a volt/ohm meter to do them.

oops, sorry guys, i thought by looking i could tell [Image: redface.gif] ,i did however check my timing, and it was at 12BTDC, i also just replaced the wires and the plugs to be safe...it turns out the thing is doing a little better...well...alot better...but its still having that problem of bucking...i am going to run the diagnostics, and see then. i did want to ask...if the cause of this WAS the fuel tank being dirty...would that show up on the diagnostics? just a question...
thanks guys.
