Hi guys.
AS I said before, Im a newbie around turbos. I understand about the wastegate and how it prevents over boosting , but can someone explain to me about the Gillis valve. What it does and how its better performance wise. Thanks for your knowledge.

All a gillis valve is, is a threaded fitting with a screw in cap that pushes down on a spring, which holds a ball over a small hole in the fitting. What this does is keeps the wastegate from opening until the vacuum reaches a pressure high enough to pull air past the ball and thus opening the wastegate. The more you turn the cap in, the more pressure is put on the ball, the more vacuum it takes to pull air past it. In simple terms, it's a manual boost controller

I installed a Gillis last weekend, my second install. It wakes up the car and is simple and cheap to do.
This car was easy to do (half hour to hour, max), although I also added a bypass valve at the same time. The Gillis makes the boost come in much sooner, and at maximum (whatever you psi set it at) at 2500rpm or so. The factory setting seems to be 9-10psi until 4000rpm, then 14-15psi like a switch.
1988 TurboCoupe 5spd, 160K miles, original condition, silver with dark blue interior. Beautiful and fun car.

So the gillis valve is attached to the wastegate? Not understanding how it makes the boost come in sooner.

Basically, the wastegate begins to slowly open, increasing the turbo's spool time. The gillis will hold the wastegate closed

Thanks guys....Will definitely have to get 1,or 2 I should say. Can't have 1 boy quicker than the other, lol.
