I got my gillis boost valve in tonite, what a pita due to the fact that the person who put the new turbo in put all the clamps facing the wrong way-but i did it,now the instructions say to leave about 5 threads showing on the valve, can I go more??My car is ALL stock except for the K&n and the valve, but I do run premium fuel@ $2.50 a gallon!!I do plan on putting in an aftermarkrt boost guage soon though.Any suggestions for how far I can push this??

Judging from the fact that he has a stock 88tc (as implied), a) he has an IC, b) he has an ihi. He said he plans to get a boost gauge, so he doesn't have one yet.

You can try your luck with 17-18psi, but it's advisable to wait until you get an upgraded fuel pump / fuel pressure regulator in case the stock pump can't handle the additional fuel requirements. Do a search if you're curious which pump and regulator to get.

I actually was just searcing around to "find"some answers on how many threads do screw in/out when I took the car out for a ride after the install It seemed as if my stock guage was reading around 12psi where as before I would get to around 15+/-.So I may get brave tommorow and turn it in a little.Btw the car is a 5spd.Now I,m trying to talk my wife into going to carlisle-we both want to meet Dan S.!!(at least twice-lol)

I would set the Gillis at 15Psi for now, until you get a fuel pump and boost guage. The boost guage is notorious for not being acurate. The pump is said to be marginal at best before they get tired and old. Looks like you have your next upgrades lined up [Image: biggrin.gif]

I verified my stock gauge against a known good pressure gauge, and it was accurate. A few years ago I ran my otherwise stock 87TC with IHI at 22psi for over a year of daily driving and a very heavy foot with no ill effects. Actually, I experimented with higher boost levels, but the top end performance fell off due to the limits of the IHI.

Not saying you should go and do that, just passing on what I was able to get away with.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you need to have good voltage at the pump. Even after swapping to a Walbro pump, I began to have a fuel pressure problem when running WOT with the headlights and a/c fan on high. Doing the 3G swap solved the problem.
