ok i have a 89 mustang that i installed a 87 turbocoupe motor with la3 comp and did all ness wiring. unplugged the wire going to the coil, with key on getting 10.6v. than plugged back in plug to coil took off coil wire, with key on getting 12v from coil to battery neg. bought a lighted spark tester plugged inbetween coil and cap light doesnt flash? what could be the problem??? car just cranks but doesnt start. i purged the fuel rail has plenty of fuel.

Well, the TFI tells the coil when to fire from the pulses from the PIP in the distributor. I would test the TFI first to see if it is good.

ok well how do i test the tfi and what am i looking for for a result?

Test light from coil neg to ground. Key on. light will light. Crank engine. Light should flash. If no flash on crank, TFI is not firing coil. No flash = TFI or PIP failure. Try this with the SPOUT connector disconnected also.

i will try this so far coil is fine and did ohm test on tfi looks fine even bought a new one got same numbers. looks like it might be a bad pip. NOW could i have a bad la3 comp by any chance??? i did buy it used just bought anther one should get it soon.

well tried the light test ya didnt work. used my meter getting 12v out of coil key on but when i used the light didnt go on. tested the power going into the coil than the light goes on. WHAT THE F???? now what do i do?
