Gas filler door

Sorry for all the questions but when I don't find what I'm looking for under the search, I ask. Maybe I should just start writing them down and asking them in blocks... [Image: wink.gif]

In keeping with the smoothed theme, I was wondering what all might be involved in relocating the fuel filler from the side of the rear quarter panel to inside the trunk so I can fill over the door (plus I've never been too keen on the latched lids). The neck comes down through the trunk to the tank anyway, so I wouldn't have to physically relocate anything, just... shorten it?

Heh, see? This is why, my brain jumps all over the place and I keep coming up with more that I don't know.

My car is sitting around 92k miles and I'm wondering if I should be concerned with the transmission. I didn't notice any kind of problems when I drove it home, but should I take it in to have it looked at anyway, for safe measure? Would an aluminum flywheel and stage 3 clutch be a good idea, if I'm going to have the tranny serviced anyway, especially if I have a 2500 mile road trip to make next year?

Again, pardon my sporatic ignorance...

Dont quote me on this but it very well could be illegal to have the fuel filler inside the passanger compartment on a daily driver. I could be wrong. second they sell fuel sells that fill from the top and most people put them in the trunk which has to be opened, these are modified cars too. i really wouldnt want to have to fill my tank from the trunk anyway. b/c im a slob and always spill gas. it would be a good idea to put a piece of steel between the trunk and back seat.

the trans question, is hard if it doesnt make any noises or grinding into gears i think your all right. no whining of the bearings and stuff. Just change the fluid and be on your way

If you are not haveing any problems with the trans, leave it alone with the exception of changing the fluid. The clutch is a maybe thing. If it wasn't abused, it could last past 150K. On the other hand it could wear out sooner than that.

Aluminum Flywheels are expensive and on a bang for the buck basis, almost anything else you do will result in better results. IMHO It's one of those things you do after you do everything else. The exception might be if you are going t auto X the car.

Thanks, Pete, that's exactly the kind of information I was looking for.

Trashline, is the trunk actually considered part of the passenger compartment? The fuel cell type tanks are what I was thinking of in terms of accessability, but I don't want to sacrifice tank size.

If you have a T-5 tranny just do the fluid like Pete D said. I have 157K on mine and it semmes just fine.
I used Mobil 1 and Got one of the little drill powered pumps as suggested. Home Deopt had it for around 10 bux. It was real easy to put the quart in a large coffe can to hold it up and pull the trigger on the Makita.

you know what my uncles blown 55 chevy has a fuel cell in the trunk and is street legal. but in order to make it street legal im pretty sure you need a firewall between the back seat and trunk.

I concider it a part of the passanger compartment might not hold people but it has easy access thru the seat and if a fire were to start in the trunk that seat would be gone fast (fire doubles in size every two minutes). i would seal the trunk to the cab of the car with fire proof materialand what about the vent for the tank? and things like that? maybe buy an old mustang tank cut the floor and put the filler behind the license plate.
