Gages and blinkers not working

This problem seemed to come on slowly, but has gotten to the point where the gas, oil, temp, voltage gages will not work along with the climate control and blinkers. I had this happen before, and just jumped a wire in the fuse box from a slot that had power with the switch on, into the slot that runs these items. So now I am doing this again and it is working. I would like to know what the actual problem is so that I don't need the wire sticking out of the fuse box. Could this the Ignition switch? And if so, how can you tell for sure? Other suggestions?
Thanks

Sure sounds like the ignition switch. Very good idea to change the switch anyway.

Is the clock working ? or is it out as well? try slowy moving/jiggling back and forth the switch while in the ON position and see if the accessories power up if they do the switch is bad ...another thing to look at is pull the trim from around the column and inspect where the ignition switch makes it connection ..some of the most common problems is the switch plug is loose and or starting to deteriate

I have to agree with him on this, I had the same problem. I chased others to no end only to find that the contention at the switch was loose, work this angel.

Problem fixed! It was the ignition switch. Part of the plastic conector was melted, but everything seems to work.

i would say yes, when this happened to me only the speedometer work and the brake light was o, I found it was the ignition switch because when it was running and these things would happen if i punched the key in a little more and move it back just slightly all of the gauges and what not would come back...
