And a word to the wise. Don't use electrical tape. It could come off at a later date and you'll still have bare wires. You can get an assortment of heat shrink tubing from Radio shack. And use a hair dryer or heat gun not an open flame.

i just bought some heat shrink tubing, but i dont trust it, do you think it will seal right, and last?

please help me im desprit! I don't know how to fix it, the wires on the stock sending unit and the stock pump have metal connectors, you can see the wires through them, how is that good, you would think that would have blew up before, those were exposed too. Whats the difference? And the connectors on the sending unit are rivited on, how can i get it off?

The wires are riveted on the top of the sending unit. At the other end is the spade connectors that plugged into your old fuel pump. Take the plug that came with your new pump and plug it into the new pump to see where the red wire goes. Now take off that plug you just put on & connect the red wire with the spade connector to the new pump (It should fit without a problem). The black wire is the one that I had to put on a new spade connector & heat shink tubing ( make sure you put on the tubing before crimping down the connector. Then slide the heat shrink tube down to the end & heat it. Be careful not to heat it too much and make a hole in it. Now here is the final step, connect the black wire to the remaining terminal on the new fuel pump.

WOW ..... ITS THAT EASY .

Always solder and heatshrink wiring especially for a long term accessory like a fuel pump.If it were to get you home then butt connectors are fine.

Solder and heat shrink will work however I found some great new products a few years ago called Posi-Locks http://www.posi-lock.com/index.html You can use the regular Posi-Locks. They do have a new product out now called Posi-Tite which is weather proof, however I don't know if it is recommended for use in gas so you would have to call them. Here's the link for their new products http://www.posi-lock.com/newproducts.html

They are made of Nylon 66 which is impervious to gas (like plastic gas cans). The best thing about Posi-Locks is they are reusable yet the wire will NOT pull out, unlike conventional crimps, and no need for soldering and heat shrink, or any other tools.

Give them a try, you will never go back to the ordinary connectors again.

If you decide to solder and heat shrink, double up on the heat shrink for added protection.
