Fuel pump not shutting off

Had to replace the IRCM today because the primary fan stayed on, even with the key off.

I put in an untested used one. now it appears that the fuel pump runs all the time, if the key is ON.Can I assume the FP relay in the used IRCM is stuck closed? I did tap the IRCM to see if it would stop but it did not.

Anyone bought an new IRCM lately? Where? How much?

Pete, look at the installation guide that came with your tuner. If I am not mistaken, the fuel pump issue is related to the Tuner. Check page 10 of the User guide.

If the FP runs all the time thekey is ON, but shuts off when the key is turned OFF, the problem is probably not the FP relay in the IRCM. Either an EEC problem (possible tuner relate, or the FP relay circuit from the IRCM to EEC (tan wire, I think) is shorted to ground. It is possible, but highly unlikely, that an internal short in the IRCM could cause this. If you put the original one back in (disconnect fan so you cant hear it), does the FP run all the time too?

New IRCM: Bought one about 2 years ago. Paid $120 at the local Ford dealer... OUCH! Since it is the same as usedin about a million Taurus ? Sable, etc, most dealers have them in stock.

Rairbird, Thanks much for that tip. I did find the reference to that fact in the Users Guide today, after I saw you reply. I've been nable to upload files to the Tuner using a laptop and the PCMX software, via a USB-SERIAL adapter. Randy is telling me no one has ever got PCMX software to work with that adapter. Now is a fine time to tell me after I bought the laptop with no serial port [Image: frown.gif]

I'm going to pull the EEC out and check the tuner installation and then hook it up to a desktop with a "real" serial port so I can use the regular tuner software to check "firm ware" to see if it's the right version. Why was it shipped if it isn't???

Jeff thanks for the info. I'm not going to panic on the IRCM yet, given that it may very well be a EEC tuner related issue.

Sticking relay? Maybe closing the door shakes the car enough to unstick the relay. Had a similar problem about 15 years ago in my 86 Tbird 5.0 that has the FP relay in the trunk. Sometimes the relay would stick on, but opening and slaming thetrunk shut would turn it off. New relay took care of the problem.

Ford still stocks the IRCM. When I went through all the problems last year, I bought three before I found that retaining washer problem. The average price from the local dealers was around $98.00.
