last week i was riding in my car and the fuel gauge stopped working. one minute it was fine and the next...poof....gremlins. i dont know if it is the sender or the gauge. is there a good way to check this without a gauge sweeping tool or potenciometer? i have a dvom and some test leads. can anyone give me some pointers?

I assume the gauge just went to zero. If so, did the LFW come on at the same time? If so, the problem is either the sender or sender wiring between the gas tank and the front of the car.

do you know what color this wire would be, or a little more specific on location? it is cold here in wisconsin and chasing a ground in my trunk is not a fun saturday. i had the car in the air at school and saw there is a wire loom that goes from the tank into the trunk, is there a junction in the trunk so i can test wires there or do i have to pull the tank down to do voltage and ground checks.? i need to know my trunk is loaded with subwoofers, so i wanna know cuz its not simple to take them out.

If you take out the carpeting to your trunk you'll see a few wires coming from the floor near the tank, thats the wire loom you saw from under the car.
Theres ether 4 or 5 wires, the org. wire is the ground to your fuel pump and the pnk/blk wire is the 12v to your pump. The rest of the 2 or 3 wires are to your fuel guage, don't have a wiring manual with me at the moment so bare with me.
Your fuel pump wires will go into the trunk then run along the passanger side to the computer while the fuel guage wires will go into the trunk and run along the drivers side.
Good luck, a dead gas guage stinks

My 85 TC had a non working gas gauge. I found the ground wire in the trunk on the drivers side and taped into it and ran it to the body. Gas gauge works now. I'm not an electrical person.
