Front Struts

I have a 84 turbo coupe that I am trying to replace the front struts on. The book says to hold the strut shaft with a screw driver and remove the center nut. I have went as far as holding the top of the shaft with a pipe wrench and using an end wrench with a cheater on it and it still won’t move. They are original struts but not rusted up and I have used Koril penetrating oil. I don’t want to remove the 3 smaller nuts because of alignment concerns. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. Harvey
