What is all involved with a front mount intercooler on the 87-88 TC? Is there a lot of cutting? Would the front mount get enough air to be effecient with the opening in the front?

It can be done with very little cutting, depending on the size of the IC chosen; I only modified the center support in front of the radiator. IMHO there's plenty of air flow generated by the forward movement of the vehicle if the unit is installed right, i.e. without massive gaps between it and the AC condenser or the radiator.

Here\'s how I did it on my '87. My brackets are probably a little overkill but that sucker's going nowhere! There's a link to a directory with some "finished" pictures at the bottom of the page.

HTH.

awesome, thanks! I just wanted to see how someone else did it so when I do mine eventually, I know what to do. Also, does anyone happen to have that module looking thing atrached to the shock tower with the big letter J on it bar code on it and the bracket that mounts it (I think that its called the IRCM module, it has the fuel pump relay and the fan relay inside, I think...around and would be willing to trade something for it? I was wondering what that huge rectangular plug was for....I am slowly finding out that my buddy stripped the Turbo Coupe. I dont even know where the MAP sensor is. Is the MAP sensor hidden behind the IRCM module? I have a Merkur MAP sensor, that is different isnt it? It looks like the same shape...Its a pain to deal with all these Merkur parts and figuring out the hard way what I can and cannot use...

The BP (what you called the map) is attached to the back side of the IRCM. I have heard you can by the IRCM remanufactured but I don't know if you need a core or not

do you know where I might be able possibly start looking for a IRCM module? Maybe someone on here has one they don't need or have laying around??

Some Tarus units are said to work;

You might check with the parts stores, like advanced or autozone.

Put an ad in the parts wanted forum

Scott if you want a new one (IRCM), go to Family Ford. I bought one last year from dealer stock in Dillsburg. Take a bag of gold with you, they go for around $100.00.

ok, sweet deal I'll check out Family ford. When you got that, does it come with the MAP sensor or BP sensor attached to the back of the module, and is the mounting bracket and the two big screws to mount it to the shock tower come with it too?
