Freaking Alternator

Died on me tonite....BARELY got the bird home....did some creative wiring to do that too..

Anyway, I think it seized up, but I'm not too sure. I'm going to take a closer look at it in the morning, where there is light and I Can see. It was just rebuilt 42k miles ago. I watched the guy do it, and he replaced EVERYTHING. This is a little too soon for it to die isn't it?
Regardless, does anyone have any part numbers fore the bearings and other associated parts to rebuild the alternator? I'm confident enough I can do it my self, screw paying 80 bucks to have it done, ad die in another 42k.

IMO, the stock 87-88 65A alts are undersized for the large electrical loads, like dual cooling fans, ABS, etc. Alts running near max output will not last as long as an alt that is running at a fraction of its max output. Why not just upgrade to a 95A or 130A 3G alt.... much better design that lasts forever.

I am planning on getting the 3g Alternator...I just need to buy some time until it gets here, that's all.

I got my 3G from U-Wrench-it for less than $30. I pulled it off a Sable with 46K miles...make sure you follow the directions in the web site and you shouldn't have any problems with the swap.

Gregg, for right around $100 you can go to your dealer and ask for an alternator for an 88 T/C and look at the build tag on it.I went to my dealer to avoid junk at the parts store and I got a 110 amp to replace my stock 75 amp.NOt sure how or why but that was the one that came up when he looked up an 88 T/C.It is identical to the stock one in every way as far as mounting and hooking it up,just looks to have more windings inside the case which is the same size as well.See what kind of price they give you for this part # :F3SU-10300-AA

All 3G alts look alike ("swiss cheese" front / rear, internal fans, stud power output), but are different physical sizes, and have different mounting flanges. I have seen 3G alts in 75A, 95A, 130A modles, and I think there may be a 105A also. As amp output grows, so does case size, but at least the 95A and 130A (and probably the 105A if it exists) share the same 2 bolt mounting dimensions. Not sure if the 75A does or not. The 3G used on 4.6 V8s uses a 4 bolt mounting system that wont work on a TC.

The cars I know have the 3G with compatable mounting tabs come in 94-95 Mustang, mid 90s to about 2000 Taurus / Sable (Later Taurus / Sable came with 4G alts.... a whole different animal). However, I dont know if all these were the 130 A version or not.... in fact, alt size may depend on how optioned out the car was. Very late model alts have the voltage regulator function built into the PCM, and would require some serious rewiring to make work in a TC.
