Found a direct-replacement, bolt-in 130 amp alternator

I went to car craft summer nationals, and spoke with a guy who has a performance shop not far from hear. We looked up a 130 amp alternator that bolts right in using all stock wiring, no modifications required (although I will be adding the extra heavy power wires). I got a chrome-plated one brand new for $200. This is good news for anyone who does not feel comfortable messing with changing wires around or grinding down on the bracket.

The brand (I think) is Tough Stuff, has a lifetime warrantee, and the part number IIRC is 7716.

I went to the website.. but the 7716 is a 75 Amp alt and is listed as a direct replacement for the 2.3L Mustang.

If one wants 150 Amp it calls out a 7771 3G unit that looks like what everyone is adapting to fit into the car now.

So Aaron I am confused on the direct bolt-in 200 Amp that you are referencing. Can you get some more information on what you have? I'd be interested in doing this modification.

Thanks...
Kevin

Looks like the 7771 has two bolt holes on one side, one is offset a little. Maybe we use the offset hole and it gives the necessary clearance. I'm gonna watch to see how Aaron comes out because this could be just what I need. Don't need polished aluminum or chrome for my engine now but who knows. Wink

Well, we looked the alternator up on 2 separate occasions, and both times it came up with 7716 as a 130 amp alternator. You can upgrade to the 3G of course (the guy actually grabbed the 3G first), but I went with this one. I will call the company to double check and will report back. Assuming we are correct and this is the 130 amp alternator that I was told, this is a great option for anyone wanting to upgrade.

Aaron,

I hope you are correct and the website is wrong.
How much did they ask for that 7716?

OK, here's the deal. I called Tuff Stuff and spoke with a rep, and they informed me that the 7716 is a 100 Amp alternator, so there you have it.
