Alright I just bought an 87 Turbo coupe for $500 the interior and exterior are very nice no rust. the only thing is that the engine is in peices. the block is in but everything else isnt.
I have worked on cars before i own a 90 t bird sc and know the basics about boosted cars and what not.
My question is.... is there anything on these cars i should be careful of before i start putting it back together?
any tips or tricks?
any input would be appreciated.
thanks Greg

Hello. welcome and congratulations on the new car.
Make sure the head and block faces are flat.
Make sure you got a "D" port, "D" shaped combustion chamber, turbo cylinder head. If the CCs are sort of heart shaped, it's not a turbo head.
Make sure there are no cracks around the exhaust valve seats. Might be advisable to have the head magnafluxed to make sure.
I would advise using a new oil supply line for the turbo. The old one has dried out most likely and will flake off varnish particles and plug up the turbo oil passages. BTDT Look here

By the same token you probably want to test the old oil return line for leaks and if it leaks replace that also.
