Well I just Got home from day 3 of my head swap. Friday was day one, teardown. In about 2 hours we had the head tore off of the motor. We started to clean everything up. Day 2 was spent trying to plumb oil and water to the turbo. I finally got rid of the high pressure fuel hose that I was using for a turbo feed line. It as well as both of the water lines were replace with "custom bent copper lines". It looks really cool. IT was a long day. Just as we fire the engine up I was stasnding behind the car and saw oil dripping into a big puddle. Quickly I shut off the car, to find that the new distribution block we made for the oil sender switch and the turbo oil feed. had a hole in it. Sadly and losing daylight I tore the upper intake back off to remove the damaged distribution block was un repairable. My dad went to auto jones and got a compression fitting and in it went. After that we fired the car up to find only one more leak. A water leak from low on the passenger side fire wall. My dad said that it was most likely a drain in case the heater core failed. It was blowing steam out of the vents too. I bypassed the heater corefor a temporary fix. The car did excellent on my 43 mile ride home. I didnt dog it by no means I am going to try to take it easy for a week or two before I decide to kick it.

Thanks Pete! I just hope the car will make it a while before it needs more attention. Saturday while I was plumbing lines my girl friend calls me up to come rescue her off of the interstate. She blew up the motor in my explorer. Dang 4.0 Now it sits in a grocery store parking lot, till I figure out what to do with it. Its sad I cannot afford to rebuild the motor right now, and its 35 miles from where I need to work on it, and cannot afford to have it towed there. None the less the bird has a lot more off boost power, and seems liek it runs lots smoother (if thats even a word).

Sounds like you had fun. Hope you get the heater core issue sorted out, sounds like you blew it in the dead of winter Sad Ripping the hoses off of the inlet/outlet of these cors will break them. I have a "hose extension" on my heater core so I can pull the hoses off without applying any force to the actual heater core. If you need help let me know, I've had 3 of these dashes apart now and I'm pretty efficient at doing heater cores. and I'm off Sundays and Mondays. lmao

thanks Ryan. but I got bigger fish to fry. I got to work on finding my gal another ride. Or a cheap way to fix the explorer. Do you or anyone else know if an 86 and an 88 dash are the same?
Wierd thing is I didnt touch the heater core hoses. I know my vents have been smoking for a while now. But it was always smoke not steam. Oh well. You win some and you lose almost always!

I would think the 86 & 88 dash should be the same. The heater core just probably finally let go.. haha. Good luck, if you need help let me know.

The dashes are not the same between 86 and 88. They might be swappable but they are not the same. I have been looking for a new dash for my 86 up here in canada and i haven't seen an 87 or 88 with the same dash yet. In fact i haven't found another year that will match.it might just be the turbocoupes had different dashes but good luck.
ROCK SOLID!
