Finally found my keeper!

Yesterday I finally found my keeper 1988 Turbo Coupe after looking for a lot of years. 30,000 miles, one owner that ordered it from the factory, always garage kept. It was 90 minutes from my house. The only downsides are it is an automatic, which doesn't really bother me, and it has a few minor paint flaws, mostly from cats getting on the hood! The interior is perfect. It even has the original McGard wheel locks in their package and still taped to the lug wrench. It is not a high option car. Doesn't have cornering lights, auto dim, or equalizer. Even the wheels are nearly perfect. The underside of the car looks just about as good. I can't believe I found this car. And, I got it for $3000. I think I may put a manual boost controller on it, but otherwise I am just going to leave it bone stock. It's just too pretty! Only issues are the headlights and foglights aren't working. The flash to pass works so I know the headlight bulbs are good. I'll dig into it this weekend and fix whatever that problem is. It does have a cracked tail light lens, but I have a good replacement. If I ever did decide to add some of the missing options, I already have the parts. I am pretty stoked about this one!

Didn't the automatic cars some with dual exhaust? This car has a single exhaust. A 2 1/2 in. down pipe and then behind the cat, a 2 in. pipe all the way back. I have a full 3 in. on another car and then a set of duals on a parts car. I may need to change that?

Only the 5 speeds came with dual exhaust if I remember correctly.

Just discovered the build sheet wadded up and stuffed in the rear pocket of the passenger seat. Also have the original demo cassette and it plays!

Yeah congrats on a great find. Sounds like you just about stole it.

Too bad there aren’t more options. I know they can be added, but it’s not always easy. I had a 1950 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 that had offered turn signals as an option, aftermarket ones were added later that didn’t really work properly. I rewired it and added the necessary parts from salvage yard vehicles to make it more like OEM, and they worked as intended.

1987 Turbo Coupe w/T5OD, 8.8 axle, grey smoke; most options. Got it in 1991 with 41K miles: 3 turbos, 2 heater cores, 3 T5OD full rebuilds, 6 clutches, 1 head gasket, 2 Teves II ABS units, etc. later....

Yeah, I just noticed today that it doesn't even have the lighted vanity mirrors. The original owner ordered the car, so I am thinking he wanted as little chance as possible of something going wrong that he didn't need. Smile

You’ll probably be able to find those somewhere. The problem is likely going to be running the wiring to them, especially since you don’t have the auto-dim feature and could run leads from that.

I have all the pieces to add all of the additional options. Just don't think I want to go to all the trouble. And, I think I may be kinda like the original owner in thinking , the less opportunity for things to go wrong.
