How can I reduce the amount of wear my turbo takes? I know about keeping the oil changed regularly. I was thinking about a turbo timer, but since it runs the engine after it's turned off(or just the oil pump?) it'll keep oil flowing. What else? Some kinda valve (memory lapse)?

Why don't you do a survey here and turboford and see how many people are using the turbo timer. I think you will find that not many/any one uses it. You don't need unless you want to turn the car off immediately following a hard run. Driving down the street at legal speed for two minutes accomplishes the same thing. The engine has to run or the pump can't turn.

Dont drive hard if you are getting ready to park.... I know that sounds weird.

Just let the car idle for 30 seconds or so before you shut it off so the oil can get back to the bearings. The oil pump will do it's job.

You could spend $100 to $150 on a "styleish" turbo timer then then again that $100-$150 could get you some major hp from other things =) !

congrats on fixing the car man.

Thanks, I got all but the lower two exhuast man/turbo bolts off but then I had to go to work. I told my dad not to do it, I'd like to myself when I got home. Nope, he finished it and put the new one on, with out me. [Image: frown.gif] It's my responsibility to remember how the vacuum lines go, I don't. Tommorrow, I'm going to finish it off and have some Hondas for breakfast!

Yeah do like Les does, use it sparingly by keeping it under 100mph, just do 95 in a 55 LMFAO!!!

One of the absolute best things you can do to preserve not only the turbo life but the overall engine life is to run synethic oil. Alot of us (me included) run Mobil 1 synthetic. Personally, I run 15w50 during the warm months and then drop back to 5w30 in colder months. I've got 165k on mile #1 TC and my oil is pretty clean at 5k oil changes.

Conventional oils literally get cooked by the turbo and will cause coking.

Also use a high quality oil filter (not Fram either). Unless you've never seen cut-away sections of filters you don't know all the sales hype behind some filters. Use Purolator or Wix filters, they are far better than most on the market for the money. Don't believe me, by one of each, cut them in half each way and look at the filter elements and the inlet/outlet holes, then make your decision.
