Autozone can't pull my codes because their equipment only covers cars within 10yrs old.
Where is a good place to get my codes pulled for free/or not free ?
Or what device or devices do I need to purchase ?
Thanks

Do it free in your driveway. Don't need to purchase anything.

I have an old Auto XRay scanner that I've used since '99. It's nice because it says when to do everything (like go WOT, tap the brakes) and displays the meanings along with the codes. It worked great until I did the LA3 swap. After that I couldn't get it to run the KOER test anymore. KOEO and CM work fine. If you could find one of those older models used it would probably be really cheap now. I'm sure it would work on a car originally equipped with an LA2/3.

EDIT:
Hey B, do you know what model that Auto Xray was ?
I just did a little searching and I'm uncertain of myself.
The cheapest one I seen was the AX2500 which works on OBDI and II.
I also seen something that mentioned "Ford Protocol". Are codes different from one manufacture to another? I would assume that its all binary code.
Gosh, I'm working late. Have you ever been so tired that you can't think straight then drink coffee but it just speeds up more stupid, unclear thoughts?

The one I have is an "EZ Link" and it's set up specifically for '83-'95 Ford EEC-IV vehicles. They don't make the EZ Link any more, but I figured one could be found used if one were interested. Also has the wiggle test mode.

codes are different for diffferent manufacturers back in the obd1 days. this was one of the reasons for obd2. every code meant something different, where as now a days. cars have a set list of codes they must have the same as everyone else. then they can use there own specific codes.

I'm leaning toward the $30 unit that just does the counting. I would hate to lose count of the flashes.
Now that I understand that much. I'm thinking I want something alittle more pricey.I want something that makes this as easy as possible. From what I understand the wiggle test on a cheaper model requires the user to actually tap the sensors.
Plus, I have newer vehicles that will some day need repairs.
What are some pros and cons to the more expensive scanners that check both OBD1 and OBD2 ?
If someone has suggestion to what exact model I should consider feel free to inform me.
P.S
THANKS GUYS YOU ARE A REAL BIG HELP!
I want to make a donation to NATO next pay check. If there is a specific thread on how to make donations please link me.

Unless you can buy a scanner that reaches out and taps the sensors and jiggles the wiring, they are all manual operation...
I have the Equuis I linked to, works great on the early OBD-I vehicles... AFAIK, none of the newer OBD-II scanners marketed for home use are going to read the early system codes...
