Engine Question

Would an '85 long block go into my '88 without a hitch? I was able to locate a crate engine and boy, do I need a new one.

Gary, the engine should be a drop in. However, if this was a commercial reman engine, it may not have forged pistons in it, even if it claims to be a turbo engine. We have learned this from experience and someone on the inside at a reman place. You can't leave it to chance because non-forged pistons just don't hold up.

You're right of course. I've seen this discussed on the board before, and I'm going to ask for something in writing guaranteeing it has forged pistons. Thank you Pete for reminding me.

Just so you know... I bought a remaned head from ford. I have but about 5K miles on it then was going to use it for a swap for my rebuilt engine. I know a really inexpensive but VERY VERY good and maticulous engine builder. He said the rebuild head was junk. He said all the springs were different ratings and the head was not set up well. He redid the head for me. Obviously it will work. But just doen't expect that great of quality control from a reman.

I opted for a super super low mileage '88 complete engine from a dealer in Northern Ohio. I've had my TC for 6 years and put on about 38000 miles on it. I just want to keep it for another 5 years at least. In the meantime I will keep the original and have it done just because the numbers match.
