Engine knock

im very close to totally restoring this car after a few years of work and tons of headaches. One of the last issues i have left to fix is when i turn off the engine the engine does a little "tick, tick" and you can feel the car do a little movement back and forth real quick after the engine is shut off. Also when the engine is idle I can here a knocking and can feel it in the shifter as if the shifter itself if real loose or knocking against something. I posted once before on the shifter issues i think but the engine problem is something im just getting into. Also one of the bolts that connects to the front of the intercooler keeps working itself loose. When we put the upper intake back together I think the one of the bolts got swapped.

Have you tried to pinpoint the sound. A screw driver handle held to one ear while you probe the non-reciprocating parts with the other can often narrow down the source of the sound. Does the knock change with engine speed?

that sounds like a problem i had with my 88, all it was was the timingit was just a little to advanced. this is probably not the case in your car but it wouldent hurt to check

No the sound is only there during idle, its something touching i think down by the shifter/tranny that my be touching and cause it to knock.

when the clutch in engaged, Yes! it does go away. ive checked the bushing, besides a little oil residue from the rear main seal leak a few years back they appear to be in good shape, what can i do if the shifter is knocking i need to get down there to see exactly what its hitting.
