I have seen many repair manuals showing a bracket (similar to the one I have located near the distributor) for a lift point in the pass. rear area of the block, but my engine doesn't have one. Is this common or is it supposed to be there out of the factory? see pic link..

Anyways, I assume bolting the chain into the open thread hole where that bracket should be will be fine? Should there be two bolts or one will hold? Not sure I see and extra open hole for a second bolt.

When we pulled my engine a few years back, the donor engine had the hoist point but the original engine did not. I'm pretty sure we just did what you were suggesting and put a bolt there and chained her up.

Once removed for any kind of repair work, the brackets are often not reinstalled. You should be able to do what you suggest and bolt the chain to the head

anyone happen to know the size of that one hole? it appears to big the biggest size in the hole block as apparently it held the bracket with 1 bolt. The front side bracket is held with 2 smaller bolts.

While we are at it... anyone know what size bolt I would need to mount to the stand on the backside of the block?
