I took out the ECC for better access in installing the Sony; got it all back together(except for the sub amp) and the ECC temp. display flashes some days, and works fine others! Any ideas? Anybody have a spare ECC they want to sell?

Not sure, but since the problem came up right after you installed the head unit, I would say you may just have a plug connection that didn't get seated right, or may have bent one of the pins. I would remove it (yeah it's a PITA) and recheck. With the space constraints and all the wires behind there, its easy to see why a plug could get dislodged.
