what is the normad exaust temp that our cars run? just wondering,, Oh and what does a new EGT probe and wires run for? i have a probe already, but the wires have been clipped. can i replace them with anything?? anybody know of somewhere can find thermocoupler wires and how to re-attach them?? I'd really like to use this guage, because i don't know of anybody who actually runs one here, and it would be a great way to monitor temps other thatn oil and water...tryin to get the full specrum of what goes on in my engine.

Well, it's differant, but not totally, but I just recently installed an EGT gauge on my diesel truck. $135 from Summit for the Gauge Kit. It was an easy install, but I had to remove the cross-over pipe (feeds the turbo from the left bank of the engine), and it was easily removed. The best place for the Thermocouple is before the turbo. You'll either have to have a differant manifold or remove the EGR line from the rear of the E6 manifold to get the probe in there (I'm not sure that it will fit there, but don't think there is anywhere else). Or you could install the probe after the turbo.
You'll have to remove the Downpipe in order to drill a hole. Then you can either weld on a bung (supplied in the Kit) or use the supplied hose clamp to keep the probe in the pipe (the welded bung is best).
You cannot use just any wire to replace the wires to the Thermocouple. The ones supplied are a certain length and have a certain resistance to them for the gauge to be accurate. You might be able to purchase the wires seperate, I'm not sure, but you will need to know the brand of the Thermocouple and Gauge.
For a diesel, max temps should not exceed about 1250-1300 degrees F (that is pre-turbo). EGT's drop about 200-300 degrees after the turbo. Also, the probe needs to be installed within 5 inches of the manifold or turbo for most accurate readings. I've heard that gas EGT's can be much higher.
