I was looking at bob's headers and i was wondering if there is any benefit to having an egr valve on my header. Do stock 88 turbo coupes have egr valves already? would it be wise of me to just get one with an egr valve or not? Thanks!

Yes stock 88 TC's have a egr valve on them. There is is lots of pro and cons on if you should get rid of it or keep it. I kept mine on my 88 TC but did remove it on my old 87 TC and did not notice any differnce in running or gas milage and pass my smog test with flying colors with it gone. So it is up to you what you do.

The EGR system on flows exhaust to the intake under certain conditions. Not at WOT so no power loss. It can help mileage

If i chose to get rid of it, would i have to weld the opening shut and create more work for myself?

Are you talking the upper intake - just make a block off plate out of flat stock. That is where the actual valve mounts. The connection at the exhaust manifold (or header, if equipped) is just to mount the tube that runs behind the engine and carries exhaust gas up to the EGR on the upper intake

you dont need to weld a block off plate you can mount it using the existing bolt holes and bolts

For a block off plate I just took a soda can and cut a piece of aluminum out of it... sharpied out the shape of the valve and cut accordingly. Put it in between where the valve mounts to the intake and the EGR was done.

I used a piece of aluminum cut to roughly the shape of the EGR base....and used the stock bolts. A 1/2 " NPT plug in the manifold and all was well.

My EGR was leaking, so I decided to block it off....since new ones are over 100 bucks. I havnt noticed any decrease in gas milage either...
