Can someone advise as to the location of the egr relay, not the solenoid one the back of the right shock tower. the wires that run solenoid come from the wiring harness and are huge gauge so they must be from a relay , I am thinking under the dash ??

What year is your Bird? I looked up the wiring for an 86 and the red wire going to the vaccum solenoid which is the + wire is powered from the EEC relay. The yellow wire goes to pin 35 on the EEC. The EEC grounds the yellow wire the EGR is needed. Not sure if there is any difference on the other years.

This also applies for the 87/88 TCs as well. The red wire at the solenoid is supplied with +12 volts, which is received from the EEC power relay. The yellow wire to the solenoid is ground from the EEC. The EEC controls the cycle of the solenoid. To my knowledge, there is no "relay" that you think of.
