Can anyone please give me direction with this ?

I'm trying to learn all the proper terms for the electrical components of our cars. Is there a single place that I can read up on what's what ?

I've heard of the "EECIV", the "ECM", "PCM, "EEC", "KOEO", "CEL" and I don't know where to look to find out what these terms mean.

I want to learn and try to figure this out for myself and hopefully be able to help others when I can but I don't know where to go to learn about these terms and what the "EECIV" is, where it is and what it does, how it does it etc...

Is there a webpage I can go to to learn about our electrical systems ? A book I can buy ?
I'd like to be a contributing member here instead of just somebody who posts when he has a problem (as I do now).
Any constructive direction would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Dave

www.google.com

ECM = engine control module (brainbox, computer, etc.)
PCM = powertrain control module (same as above)
BCM = body control module (computer for anything not engine or trans related)

KOEO = key on engine off
KOER = key on engine running

CEL = check engine light
SVC = service vehicle soon
SEL = service engine light

EECIV is the version of the system used. Ford EEC IV means Electronic Engine Control version 4.

So,

EECIV, PCM and ECM and EEC are the same thing - what I've been calling, "The main computer" which is located in the passenger footwell, right ?

Thanks guys for your replies.

Yes, they are all the same thing PCM, ECM, EEC. They are all the "main Computer". Just depends on who you are talking to. LOL

Thanks zbird !

I'm slow to learn but once I understand stuff I'm useful to have around. At this point, however, I'm still pretty useless.

Thanks for your help.
