Can anyone tell me what color and what positions the wires go to on the test plug on an 88? Theres 3 wires in mine and a 4th hanging loose with no plastic on it. Ive tried hooking it up to my scanner and it dont seem to want to talk to the PCM, I think someone may have fiddled with the connectors in the plug.

See diagram here http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/Retri..._codes.htm

Yes it sounds like the connector is missing off the STI single wire.

I think the wires may have been switched around in the plug, when I hook my scanner up or a jumper wire theres no response from the PCM, all that happens is the fan turns on.

The fans turning on is the beginning of the test mode. They'll run for the entire duration of the KOEO test. I presume you are talking about the KOEO test....

Hook it up as you were and let it run for at least a minute. I think it should be less than that, but you will see either code 1-1 (no fault) or any combination of codes indicating system faults.

Ok, went out and put the jumper in, let the fan run about 5 minutes before I gave up. Maybe the CEL is burnt out, it doesnt buld check when you turn the key on. That doesn't make sense my scanner wouldn't get results either though.

from the wiring diagram:

BLK/WHT= VAM wire goes to the test connector then goes to the signal return wiring

TAN/LT-GRN= pin 22 goes to the test connector then goes to the fuel pump relay

YEL/BLK= pin 17 goes to the test connector and connects to the TAN wire

TAN= starts from the test connector and leads to the instament panel(check engine light)

If I'm right and please correct me if wrong, you jump the single WHT/RED wire(STI) to the TAN YEL/BLK wires then take an LED and jump it between a 12v source and BLK-WHT wires to get your codes.

So if you take that and the diagram with what pins in the test connector to jump you should be able to set them back were they use to be Smile

Pretty common for a PO to take the CEL bulb out if it is on at the time of sale.
