I am planning some fairly entensive mods in the near future, and I figured I should start by clearing up any issues the car currently has before I start on the mods. To this end, I just pulled the codes using an Innova Code Reader and found:

KOEO: 83,83 -Long Pause- 1,42,42

I modified the cooling fan circuit to allow both fans to run together as described here:

Could this have caused the 83 Code?
Also, I don't know what the 1 Code is?
Also, could the 42 Code be caused by running higher fuel pressure on by Kirban Reg?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

83, maybe,

1 is the signal between KOEO and CM codes. It is not a code itself.

It sounds like I'm probably ok on my 83, but based on your link, I should check my fuel pressure, fuel return line, and VAM.

Do you have any info on checking out the VAM?
I want to make sure it is working ok.

Yup, 83 is due to the fan rewire. PCM tests each fan seperately by looking for a brief system voltage drop when they start up. No fan startup sensed = code.

Thanks Jeff, that's fine with me. I like the way the fans are working. Regarding the Code 42 though:

I checked the VAM. It was .9V at idle. With KOEO, it was .25V with vane closed, and 4.55V wide open. These all sound within spec, right?

Also, the voltage swept up very smoothly to 4.55, except for the first 1/4" of vane movement. The voltage didn't change at all during the first 1/4". Is this ok?

Assuming all of the above check out, I rechecked my fuel pressure. I have a Kirban reg. The pressures were:
KOEO: 41 psi
At Idle w/ reg hose on: 39 psi
At Idle w/ reg hose off: 48 psi

Is this ok, or is the fuel pressure too high?

Too high!! Engine running, pull vac hose off regulator. Stock press should be 39 psi. Putting the vac hose back on should result in about 30 psi with about 18" idle vacuum. I bet thats the cause of the CM 42. EEC is at the limit of its ability to lean it out in closed loop in some situations, resulting in the 42. 48 psi base pressure is typically right around where the EEC cant correct for it any more in closed loop. If you need to run somewhat higher base pressure due to mods, like higher boost, try 44 to 45 psi.

KOEO pressures dont mean much unless you jumper the EEC TEST connector to run the fuel pump constantly (not just the prime cycle) while checking pressure.

Your VAM volts sound fine.

Thanks a lot Jeff. I originally set the pressure lower, but it seems to have crept up over time. I'll reset it, then clear the codes and drive it a while before testing it again. Hopefully that will clear it up.
