I was just thinking about changing my ECT just for kicks since im sure its stock or quite old. I had an issue with my fan didnt wanna kick in till it was almost too late. My local auto parts store has every brand except Motorcraft. I found this part number for Motorcraft

Ford Part Number?: MIDY681
Ford Parts

And the generic ones are these guys
Advanced Auto parts

Should I attempt to find the Motorcraft over the generics?

I've been using a BWD ECT for quite a while without issue. That's one part where I, personally, think aftermarket is fine.

I had "perceived" problems with one of the NAPA ECTs years ago. I returned it and got the Ford Part.
The ECT influences timing, A/F and EGR as well as providing data for the fan control. This is one of the sensors where I feel more comfortable using OEM.
