E-test Fail!

Just re-tested it and it failed again! I installed new plugs, new Motorcraft wires, cleaned the cap and rotor, installed the correct injectors and installed a new 02 sensor.
The end result was a fail on high 02 again but it has improved significantly....
I will get the numbers and re-post
And I have installed the factory IC and disconnected my FMIC and BOV. It is basically back to stock.

Have you checked out the fuel system? It's fairly easy and only need a fuel pressure gauge.

Have you checked your complete exhaust system for holes? I failed once because of that problem; had to get new pipes installed.

That used to be a old trick to get one to pass, create enough leak that fresh air was mixed into the stream diluting the pollutants...

Except for a few northern municipalities, VA doesn't test for emissions but will fail one instantly for a exhaust leak as it's considered a safety hazard...

Dunno about this one but if the oil has enough fuel dilution(from running too rich) it's been said that can cause a fail...

Here in Arizona--and the Phoenix area in particular--air pollution has been a big concern for at least the past 30 years that I've been here. It used to be so bad that it was almost like Los Angeles--if you drove up into the mountains surrounding the city you'd see a big cloud of smog over it. That's pretty much gone, thanks to very stringent air pollution and emissions standards enforced during that time.

Even when only a few years old my TC would routinely fail the state's Emissions tests...it ran great and seemed to have no problems, but clearly not good enough to pass. I tried all sorts of things: new parts, different settings, etc. What finally worked for me--and if there was EVER a time to say YMMV, this is it--was when I hit upon inserting the small red tube from a can of good carb cleaner (like Berryman's, not the cheap stuff) between the metal tube and the large vacuum hose that goes into the top of the intake manifold: just where the linkage for the throttle is situated. What you want is to be able to spray the stuff into the vacuum system while the car is running. I'd set it up first (because it obviously won't start with the tube disconnected), start the car, with one hand open up the throttle to up the idle and with the other hold down the spray nozzle, keeping the idle up high enough to prevent stalling. All kinds of nasty stuff would come out of the exhaust (it's also a great way to find exhaust leaks!), and the engine would get very close to stalling. I read somewhere that this helps clean out gunk and stuff inside the engine...the directions I read said to end the session by letting it stall the engine. I didn't always do that.

Afterwards I'd take out the spark plugs and clean them, and remove and clean the fuel injectors and install new "caps" and o-rings. Then, it was off to emissions again for the free re-test.

My results dropped phenomenally. I mean--if the CO passing number was, say, 2.20 ppm, I had something like 0.2. Before it was over 3.0.

Just a suggestion that has helped me get through at times MULTIPLE re-tests, before I started doing this. I don't have to do it every time now, just every few years.

(I forgot to add--the car is all stock with no mods.)

I think the near constant dust storms and triple digit temps may have a little something to do with Phoenix's crappy air quality as well. Along with a continuously growing population. Outside of Phoenix, and maybe Tuscon, air quality isn't as big a deal to most people. Thank God I live in a county that doesn't require emissions testing, yet at least. As soon as I get a PIMP I'm ditching as much of the emissions crap as I can.

It appears that I could have solved my emissions issue but will need another test to prove. I made the mistake of buying the most expensive plugs I could buy and had forgotten that motocraft copper were actually better so I changed that...then what I noticed was that the o2 ground that connects to the turbo had broken off. I re connected that wire and noticed a huge improvement in how the air fuel gauge sweeps at idle and now the car pulls harder under boost. Do you guys think that this could have an affect on the emissions?
