Driving with no timing cover question

I know many of us have either removed or cut the timing cover in half for quick belt and timing changes. Is it ok to drive like this in the rain? If yes, how dangerous is it?

i dont see it being a problem havent done it on my tc yet but i plan too once i start on the engine but i have done it on hondas and toyotas with no problem only thing i would say is if your going to cut just the top to show your cam gear and stuff like that make sure you cut part of the bottom off so that if you get some water/dirt in there it will fall out an its not just sitting at the bottom of the cover.

No problems here, my cover broke off when i replaced my belt. Diddent feel like using half the cover so i left it all off. It rains a lot here in Vancouver too
1988 5speed black every option. 3inch single turbo to tail(stinger), manual boost control. k&n cone walbro fuel pump

1986 xr4ti project car..... way to many mods to list.

Cut off every piece of that dam thing I could. My son never had a problem.
Found this plastic cover on a two cylinder engine in a golf cart. Why I ask, Why does a manufacturer install one of these covers on an engine before they install all that stuff on the end of the crank shaft? Should be a way to get it off without taking all that stuff off the crank? Yes or NO?

no problem whatsoever. we have raced these engines on the dirt tracks with mud and water and car parts flying everywhere and no issues.

No problems with no cover, BUT make sure you dont have any oil leak on the front of your engine (like a busted valve cover gasket) oil as tendency to eat rubber = slip timing gear. Other than that go for it!

The only issue I can see with no timing cover, is don't have any loose shirt sleeves, etc while working in the engine bay when the engine is running....if course this is true anyway with the surpentine belts...
Former owner of 88 Silver T/C, loaded (except leather & A/T), original owner, 294,815 miles!!!
K&N, Gillis(18 psi), SVO roller #1, big SS valves, ported intake, head, & exhaust.
Short block & turbo original/untouched, spec-II/III clutch combo.
Polyurethane bushings throughout, Goodyear GT-HR 235/55R16
