Hey everyone
I raised my Front Tilt on my drivers seat but it will not go back down. I kept raising it in intervals hoping it was kinked and would pop back into full working order. Finally it stuck all the way up. The motor has juice but it jerks like its jammed when trying to get it back down. Raising it up was smooth and powerful.
While I'm at it.
Will the Mustang manual seat brackets work ?
I would like to drive it to work until I can fix it.
In my experience the track closest to the door gets full of junk or rust. You have to spray lots of penetrating oil in there and work it back and forth. If it's really bad it's better to unbolt it so you can move the seat around to get the oil in. Put a piece of plastic underneath to avoid soaking your carpet. You may even need to tap it lightly with a mallet to free it up. I've had to do this to 3 or 4 different seats in the past. I hope this helps you

If safety dudes suggestion doesnt work, pull the seat out and have a look at what is jamming it up. You can use a battery to power up the seat motor when the seat is out of the car. Puling the seat is easy..... 4 bolts and its out.

I have the seat out.
Safety Dude, I don't think thats the problem. That gear you speak of seems to roll the seat back and forth.
I think its a problem with the front regulator/actuator type gear thingy.
I would up load pictures but I hate having to upload to Photo Bucket ect... Admin and/or Moderators, can we switch back to the old way of up loading pics ? Its so much simpler to just click and search my computer.

Thanks B
As you can see the track that Safety is talking about looks to be the forward & reverse track.
Anyway, I took all three cables loose (don't ask why). Warning, taking those cables loose looks like a bad idea at this point. It seems they may be hard to get back in. Plus, You can turn the electric motor with the cables really easy so I now know that was not the issue.
Next, I took the gear drive cover off. I took out the worm/screw gear and the drive was still locked. After tinkering with it several minutes I got it free. I can now lift and lower the front by hand. I inspected it further and only have one reason why it could have been jammed (right or wrong I don't know). But the Bushing the gear drive rides on looks to be slightly out of round (egg shaped). This is the only conclusion I have thus far. Oh yeah, that electric bracket weighs about 15lbs (gosh).
I'm currently working on switching the passenger seat bracket to fit on the drivers side. The problem I've ran into on that is the seat belt brace needs to cut and rewelded.
Anyone know if other Birds or Cougars came with manual seat brackets on the drivers side ?
There were some birds that had manual driver's seat tracks. I once got a set from somebody, years ago. Power seats were options on some models so look for the "less optioned" cars.
I weighted the power track from an 88 at between 22 & 23 #s each
Yeah... I see what you mean... those tracks are way too clean to be what I was talking about.
