driveline vibration

i've got the dreaded 45-65mph driveline vibration.it's smooth before 45 and smooth after 65.it'll shake even in neutral coasting at that speed.it feels like it starts right at the trans tunnel and goes back.i've replaced the t-5 tailshaft bushing(the old looked fine but i replaced it anyway),the d/s u-joints(it helped some)replaced the gears and all rearend bearings and it never got better or worse.it did seem when i replaced the crossmember and added energy suspension trans mount and crossmember bushings it got a little worse.i also replaced the back wheels and tires with brand new ones and also didn't help.any suggestions appreciated.thanks

The crossmember bushings and trans mount probably didn't make the vibration worse. Just that they are stiffer so the vibration that was there is more noticable.
I'm not sure about the range of your vibration, mine starts at some point and continues to get worse. I'm now almost certain mine is driveshaft imbalance.
Things to look into.
Make sure the yoke on the differential flange is tight.
Reclocking the differential yoke on the diff. flange may help (it helped some in my case, but did not eliminate it.)
Rebalance driveshaft.
Check axle bearings.
Good luck, this is one of those problems that is hard to diagnose.

robert,i replaced the axle bearings and the axles show no signs of any wear.i did try reclocking the d/s in several different spots and it had no effect better or worse and the flange bolts are tight.i had thought about the d/s but i don't have a good enough shop around to try to check it and have it rebalanced(have had bad experiences with them before).

When replacing the u-joints did you put the transmission and rear end yokes back on the drive shaft in exactly the same orientation as before you disassembled it.
I only mention this as I'm assuming you replaced the u-joints because of the vibration. If the vibration was not there before replacing the u-joints then you probably rotated one or the other yoke, most likely transmission yoke.

yes, they were put back on the same way.it was vibrating real bad and squeaking(the rear u-joint was wasted).it got better after the u-joints and only had a minor vibration.i then replaced the tranny mount and crossmember bushings with energy suspension bushings and the vibration got more noticable.i would switch them back to see if that helped but they are long gone and the tranny moount was shot anyway.

If you have access to another driveshaft, I would try that and see if that eliminates it as your problem.

yeah,i was thinking about it but i don't have a spare one and i really hate to buy one and that doesn't fix it.i might try to keep checking to find a better d/s shop.

To say again, the ES tranny mount and bushings just cause the vibration to be more noticable. Switching back would only mean that the problem is less noticable. Sort of an ostrich approach anyway. At this point I suggest you have the driveshaft balanced. That's my next step, sort of. I'm replacing the driveshaft with one out of a Crown Vic. So it has to be cut and balanced anyway. Balancing shouldn't be to expensive. I'm getting the aluminum shaft cut, welded, and balanced for ~$100. To do the balancing the shop will probably want the transmission yoke attached and the rear end u-join only installed. See if you can find some local.

see, that's the problem.there is no local shop.the closest shop is 60 miles away.the last time i used them to cut and balance a d/s for my brothers 80 malibu when we changed it over to a 5 spd.the old weight was never even removed from the d/s and you can tell it's not balanced perfect.they are a big truck shop and i assume they just don't care as long as it's out the door and paid for.
