Hello all i am a new owner of an 88 Turbo coupe i have wanted one ever since my granpa had one he purchased new in 88 and had through his passing in 95. Any way i have been looking at info for a while my dream build would be an autox/street with about 350-400 rwhp and was wandering what your oppinions were? and what areas i can cut weight and still maintain moderate street comfort. Budget isn't an issue qaulity and reliability are.... any help is appreciated...

Thanks i had skimmed over that i am leaning toward doing a turbo coyote with a 6 speed... what are your guys thoughts on griggs suspension i know it is a heavy car to start with, i just want a fun unsuspecting car that can catch the above average euro tuner/ricer by surprise.... and still be perfectly street able... does anyone know how much work it would take to adapt an 03-04 cobra clutch assembly over to this chassis or will a fox mustang assembly drop right in?

Welcome to the board
There are many who use V8 'stang clutches. What needs to be done to accomplish is I don't know, but I don't think it's a difficult swap. :dunno:
Once you get going on this, you should start a build thread like Nate did to keep everyone up to date on progress.
Also - post some pics!

Unless you're looking for 600+ horsepower, the Coyote swap is a loooot more work than building up the 2.3, and not much is gained.
Near as I can tell the stock internals on a true Turbo 2.3 are bulletproof for quite a lot of horsepower, bolt on horsepower.

There are 600Hp 2.3T lurking about??? Probably. You get what you pay for, so they're racing motors with everything upgraded, but they're a lot cheaper and easier than a 600HP Coyote....

Sounds cool, if I could say "Budget isn't an issue" then I would look into the Folvo swap (volvo DOHC head). Do a search on it. I can't say first hand but after looking at the flow numbers I would imagine this would be really good for autox. Not saying it's needed just wanted to mention before swaping to a coyote.
Since it was sorta brought up, does anyone know the max RWHP that was made on a stock shortblock with stock rods and for prolonged use?

Build it right and don't let it spin too fast or detonate and it'll do amazing things. Boost doesn't kill these motors, detonation does. IIRC a lot of the internals are forged from the factory, aren't they?
