Door Speakers

Have an 85 TC and I just put a new interior in and it looks like there's a spot to put in speakers in the doors. My question is I found a 2-wire plug just laying inside the doors. Are those speaker wires? Can't find any type of wiring diagram that cover this. I have the orgininal radio and factory speakers in the back deck and the dashboard. I would like to change out all the speakers and add new one's to the doors if possible. Not looking to blow out windows (52 years old) just good sound.

that is the wire harness for the factory speakers. you might want to think about running new wire though. i have been installing car stereo equipment for over 10 years and the wire they used in the 80s was....well needless to say....it sucked. even cheap walmart car stereo wire would be better. cost about 12 bucks for 50 ft.

When I replaced my radio with a CD/radio I ran new quality speaker wire to each of the 6 speakers (2 dash, 2 doors, 2 rear deck) right from the deck.. I just merged the 2 front rights, and 2 front lefts together at the deck.

I added door speakers to my 85. The 2 wires in the small plug are for speakers. You have to pull the radio and ohm them to see were they are in the plug. If you can't locate them then pull new wire, which is a pain. I reused all the other wiring in the car and it's fine, sounds great.

The Ford speaker connector is a funny looking gray thing with two terminals that are in line like this - -. If that is what you have the wiring for each door speaker is in parallel with the dash speaker for each side and you can just hook the speaker up.

Went to Best Buy and picked up some door speakers and installed them last nite. they fit perfectly and sound great. Now to up grade the rear deck speakers.

sorry to bring a post back from the dead but i was wondering did you use the existing wiring or did you run new wire to the door speakers

My 88 didn't have wiring in the doors for speakers. "Premium sound" guessing, since the covers say that on them, dont think it had an equalizer though.

I did pull new wires into the doors. The drivers door was easy the passenger was a pain in the ass. I ended up pulling the speaker from the dash and feeding the wire that way. I also did change out the rear speakers. Like the earlier post stated, check polarity of the wire. BIG DIFFERENCE in sound.
