Door Molding

I didn't know whether to reply to an old post about the moldings or start a new one ( I used the search function).

I took the drivers side molding off and it's straight, but has some tape residue still left on it. What should I use and how should I take this off? When re-attaching, should I use 3M tape or some type of epoxy glue. I went to a ford body shop and they told me double-sided tape will not work.

The shop told you what wouldn't work, but they didn't have any suggestions for what WILL work? Weird.

They gave me a number of Ford obsolete parts to see if they had a new molding. They did not. They said if I use an epoxy type glue, It will permanent, though and advised from using that. Then they suggested I use an aftermarket door molding. NEGATIVE! I have a real good one, just needed some guidance to stick this one back on. One body shop says I can use a glue called "gorilla" glue and it should work. Is there a solvent that can take off the sticky stuff in the back of the molding

Well my question is "how does the aftermarket molding attach?" Although I do believe that over the counter tapes from the office stores won't hold, I have seen some pretty aggressive silicone or mylar backed adhesive-glue on rolls in my days as a printing press operator. 3m makes a KILLER adhesive, silicone backed. Cut a strip and put it on something, then peel the backing off. We used it to stick hot stamp dies onto a plate that gets up to 300 degrees for foil stamping. The glue would cause the plate to float maybe .0125 in a 5000 stamp cycle. It also held the review mirror in my mustang far better than glue kits made for that.
I'd find a body supply shop that would have something like this, or the internet.

Um, my bodyshop was able to re-attatch the molding very easily. They cleaned off the residue with a razor blade (in the the little hand-holder) and used 3M double-sided tape almost identical to what was on there originally. They stuck all my moldings in a the baking booth with some large flat weights on them to flatten them back out. Then they installed them. Been almost 9 months now and they can hold on over 130MPH and in the rain, snow, and 102* weather so far.

I just got back from Autozone and bought that "Goo Gone" and put it on the back of the door molding. I'll try lacquer thinner if Goo Gone don't get all the sticky stuff off. I'll get some 3-M double tape and stick it on myself.

Thanks Y'all!
