Door Lock Actuator rubber boots?

I've got two perfectly good door lock actuators for my car now. Unfortunately as is the case with these older Fords, the rubber boot that fits over the whole thing is dry rotted and cracking. If possible I'd like to get some new ones as I'm sure the actuators will last a while as long they stay dry inside. Basically I'm trying to take care of all the possible points of failure as I don't want to take these door panels back off again until I decide to recover 'em. [Image: smile.gif]

Has anyone found just the replacement boots before? Seems like it could be a bit cheaper than replacing the whole thing when it fails.

I don't believe there are replacement rubber covers according to my parts catalog - only the door lock actuator. You may be able to buys a rubber tire tube & use it to cover the actuator & tie it to prevent water from entering the unit.

Get some rubber gloves, and cut a finger off and use it for a boot. Use nylon tie wraps to secure the glove finger on the rod and activator body. BTDT more than once. Works great!

Man... I didn't think about doing that! That's a good idea. [Image: smile.gif] I'll have to go to Home Depot and get a pair of gloves now. hehehehe

I like that Idea Jeff. I'll have to try that on the next one.
