Hi everyone i'm new on here, but not to the TC. My problem is the bird won't start! i have replaced the timing belt, coil, plugs and wires, and the TFI. it was just turning over until i replaced the TFI. now she atleast trys to start. oh the cam timing is right on, but the distributor timing isn't. my #1 plug is at 2 o'clock and my rotor i at 12. will this keep it from starting and if is how do i fix it?

The first thing to do is loosen the distributor hold down bolt and rotate the housing until (with your cam timing lined up to TDC) your rotor is pointing at the #1 plug wire. Retighten the hold down, and barring any other issues, she should fire up
Once you have this, you will need to pull the SPOUT (little block in the pigtail by the dist.) and set your base timing to 10 degrees BTDC.

Ok I set the housing until the #1 plug was at the rotor. I tightened it down, but the car still won't start. How do I set base tming?

Ok when I turn the housing counterclockwise it sounds like its getting closer to start. But I'm as far as I can turn it cause the TFI mod hit the motor. What do y'all suggest?

You probably rotated the aux shaft gear by accident when you replaced the timing belt. Be sure the crank is set at TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke. Remove dist. Note the rotor rotates about 15 degrees as you remove it. Reinstall so the rotor is pointed at #1 on cap and the TFI has lots of room to swing either way so you can set timing.
Once started, pull SPOUT jumper plug in the pigtail coming from the TFI harness (it just hangs down on 2 wires) and use timing light to swt timing to 10 deg (stock) or maybe a little more. Reinsert SPOUT jumper and be sure timing advances to around 25 deg at idle.

Ok guys, I have done all that. Still trys to start.
I do know I'm getting gas to the plugs.
Question? I still have my intercooler and hose to the air filter box. Would this keep it from starting?

It shouldn't keep it from starting.

That read a little funny to me. Are you saying everything is still connected properly? Or trying to say you still have the hose disconnected? If they're disconnected.. it may start and run for a second or two then die.

it's not going to start if any of the hoses between the VAM and the throttle body are disconnected.
