Distributor hold down bolt

Hey all,

Does anyone know the tread pitch of the distributor hold down bolt? 10 x 1.50? I want to put a bolt in that has a next size smaller head so its easier to get to when setting base timing.

The stock bolt head size is 17mm. People have come up with several alternatives. I use an Allen head bolt and a long "T" handle.
Not sure on the thread pitch.

Thanks Pete. Where did you find a allen head bolt? Fastenal? Did searching, guess i'm not used to this different search engine yet

Somebody was selling sets - the bolt + a homemade T handle. It's very handy.

I also saw in the archieves that one or more people reported using a 13mm head size on a replacement bolt.

ok so I deceided to keep the factory bolt and buy a nice distributor wrench for the 2.3's from VIM tools, like $26 bucks with free shipping on ebay. There is other ones on there, including original Rotunda OTC ones. Damn nice. I already got a OTC Rotunda timing belt tensioner wrench, works very well.

I have a dist bolt wrench also. Be careful as in the heat of battle it will touch the contacts on the back of the alternator and spark. Maybe wrap the shaft with electrical tape for insulation.

I have a small pile of brand new Dist hold down bolts that are going to waste right now, exactly the same specs as the factory bolt. I had to buy a bunch to get the one that I needed. If anyone needs one or more of them, I'll let them go for free, just pay shipping.

I checked timing, and it was set about 8°(the hold down bolt is a pita by the way). I haven't had a chance to do a test drive since I have the kids to myself tonight. I'm interested to see if that 2° is enough to feel in the seat or see at the pump. I guess time will tell.
