Will a duraspark distributor from a pinto work with a turbo engine. Not doing this for my TC. Just have a chance to buy an almost complete 2.3 for next to nothing. It has no wiring or ECU and I was thinking of trying to build a blowthrough or pressure box setup using a carb just to see if I could get it to work using a duraspark ignition in a pinto or fairmont.

I realize there are going to be issues with figuring out timing advance and running lean on the top but if it will go in and be able to fire I would be huge steps ahead compared to finding the wiring and ECU. Also I realize that I will probablt have to change gears also.

Thanks

Blow throughs have been around forever. Believe it or not, Ford built a Turbo Pinto Hatch Back, I believe about 1970 or so. I saw one at a dealership way back when I was a lad, and was impressed with the jam the little beast had. Gav many of the Bad Ass cars of that day a run for there money! THey only thing I would suggest a strong coil and good wires, as the the rules for spark remain the same as in our "modern" ignition cars! I have a freind who still owns an original Buick Coupe from the late fifties/early 60's, factory turbo. Real gem! All original, using standard cap and points with condensor! YOu should not have any problems with a stock Ford ignition, and you will find that timing is not an issue as well! Blowthrough pressure was usaully well below 8 PSI, as most carbs would not handle much over that!
Good luck with the project,
