Disabling boost-related Firm Ride mode / floppy ash tray lid

Now that I have the K&N cone and Gillis valve, I'm always around 10psi on my commute since most of it's on a hilly highway. That means it keeps going in and out of firm ride mode.

Is there any way to disable the computer from going into firm ride mode based on hitting 10 psi of boost while keeping it fully functional otherwise? If anyone has a pinout of the suspension computer, that would really help. I assume that disconnecting whatever wire carries the boost signal would make it think it's always at 0 psi.

Also, does anyone else have a problem with the ashtray in the center console flopping open? How do you fix that?! I don't smoke, so I'm tempted to glue the damn thing shut.

I don't beleive that the PRC computire has ans sensor that is a boost reference. it's probably kicking on because you're going over 3/4 throttle. As for the ash tray, there are two springs on the bottom of the cover that will hold it open or shut, one of the is probably missing. I don't smoke either, so I pulled the ashtray out and used that space as a holder for my cell phone.

I used to leave my PRC on AUTO when I first had my TC...but now I (and a lot of people seem to) prefer it to always be on FIRM. That would fix your situation in a hurry...

My 93 Cougar rides as if someone replaced the springs with concrete blocks. Therefore, the TC's soft, cushy "auto" mode can be a blessing. [Image: smile.gif] I have started putting it in firm on the highway since I can't really tell the difference there.. I was just wondering if there was a wire I could snip or something easy like thar to disable to boost signal. It definitely uses boost as a guideline, I can get it to slowly spool up at about 1/4 throttle; without moving the pedal it will go to firm mode at 10psi. The specs page on this site mentions it too..

Thanks for the ashtray info, I noticed it has two arms on the lid and I can't see any springs on them.. Hopefully that can be fixed without too much hassle.

That spec page is technically not correct. Below is the real data.

* Brake pressure is 400 PSI or above
* More than 90% throttle position
* 0.35g lateral acceleration
* Vehicle speed is above 83 MPH

JT is correct, boost has nothing to do with it. PRC also goes to firm during rapid steering inputs.

The signal is fed from pin 35 of the EEC to pin 28 of the PRC computer. Disconnecting the wire, or better yet adding a switch would let you controll actavation of the firm setting. This is the one feature I am missing on my 5.0 swap, because the V8 computer has no such output. [Image: frown.gif]

I just fixed my floppy ashtray lid. It turns out that there are two springs holding the lid shut. The hole that holds one of the springs on mine had worn through, and only the Lord and that television psychic know where the spring went. I used a spring off of an old, broken console I had laying around, stretched it a bit so I could connect one end a somewhere beside the broke place, and that holds the lid shut.

Damn good idea, Tom!!!! I might do that myself. If any one is interested, that wire is Orange/White.
