Cylinder head question

Ok here is my problem. My cylinder head on my 86 XR7 is cracked and I am in need of a new one. The best price I have gotten so far is $325 for a reconditioned head. Really not that bad considering if I were even able to find one from the junkyard I would need to have it checked and reconditioned anyway. I have also found a new recast of the head at NAPA for about the same price. My question is should I go with the reconditioned head or the new one? Thanks for the help.

I haven't heard about a "new, recast head" through NAPA. Got a part #? I'll run it past my local store. My concern is that it may not be an actual "turbo" head.

$325 isn't bad, depending on what's been checked and what has been done? Got details?

Pete, I don't have a part number from NAPA. My dad was the one that had called for me. I did find another place though yesterday that only wants $254 for a rebuilt head without the cam, followers, and lifters. They say that most of the heads have been welded or repaired in some way but they have all been pressure tested, new valve seats if needed, 3 angle valve job, valves ground to specification or replaced, springs checked, and the head resurfaced. I am probably going to call and order mine today, so hopefully I will have it by the end of next week. Oh one of the best parts is that shipping they are saying will probably be only $20 and they give you the tags to have the core sent back so you don't have to pay for that.

When you get it, be sure it is a "real" turbo head. If you dont know hod to tell a turbo head from and NA head, post a pic of the combustion chamber.

I still have the original head off the car and also have a 8 plug ranger head to compare it too. But I will probably still post pics just to make sure it is correct and also so people can see what it looks like because it is the cheapest place I have found for a rebuilt head.
