I am doing the auto to T5 swap. Both trannys are out of both the cars i have and i noticed a difference in the cross members from both cars. This i kinda figured but i have a 87 TC with a T5 and a 88 TC with auto that i am trying to put the T5 in. The cross members and cross member mounting on the frame are different. Is this because of the different years of the car or because the different trannys, or both. For example the auto 88 TC had shorter (from front of the car to the back of the car)bushings where the cross member mounts and had a bolt with a speed nut, and the 87 T5 TC had longer bushing mounts and had a bolt and nut on both sides. I havent gotten that far to put it back in, i will probably get the flywheel resurfaced anyway but i was just wondering if this is a year change or a transmission difference. Originally i thought i would be a able to use the 87 T5 cross member in the 88 auto car, i didnt try it yet but it doesnt look like its going to happen that way. Maybe i will have to modify the auto member that bolts in to that frame, or modify the frame mounts to put the T5 member in. Does this make sense, what are your thoughts, maybe i just need to go to the junk yard and find a 88 that had a T5. Thanks.
