You could probably find a used unit. There is also an article on diagnosing the stock fan set up;

Replacement motors can be had, used and new
Iv'e put a Spal after market on mine. I got some issues that I haven''t diagnosed yet so I don't know if it's the fan or some of the wiring yet. There are several brands of after market fans available. Whatever way you go you need to consider a fan shroud to get the most cooling out of the fan

Well I went to the junkyard today and couldn't fine any tbirds from 83 to 88. I ended up gettin a fan from a 96 ford tbird. It covers about 90% with the fan and the rest is the shround. I haven't got it on yet so when I do I will let you know how it works. Pete I am also still haveing the trouble with it spittin and spuderin.

Pete I sent you a reply to ur email. I don't know why it wouldn't have came to you yet? Send me another email and I will send what I have done.
As for the fan you all I got it wireed in to the factory wirein and it didn't work. I know the new fan works checked that with a dewalt battery. So I got on the site here and was goin to try and fit it like the site says but when I dove in to the wirein I got scared... Lmao I juz ran a wire from the fan to the dash and a switch there and used the factory wires for the key switch on the radio and blow a fuse rite off the bat...lol I put a bigger fuse in to replace the 20 amp fuse with a 30 amp for the more amps the fan draws.

You can get aftermarket ones that come with (may be optional)r=their own temperature sensing units. Whatever you do, consider using relays and new wiring as opposed to relying on any part of the factory wiring
