Hi Everybody,
First post but have been lurking as a guest for approx 2 months while I slowly get my 86TC back into running condition. Almost there but have an overheating problem due to the Rad. fan not turning on. Have gone through everything I can think of but still no fan. Does anyone know where the fan relay on an 86TC is located? ALLDATA diagram shows a cooling fan controller with a fan relay and an A/C Fan control located in it. Any ideas?????????

Welcome to the board.
Just went through the same situation. The cooling fan controller/relay is under the passenger side dash. The easiest way to see it is to open the glove box all the way, and it will be toward the center of the car. You can also see it by sticking your head under the passenger side dash. It is a black box about four inches square by about one and a half inches thick. All of the ones I have seen have orange printing on them. The relay is held to the dash by one screw near where the passenger side courtesy light is mounted.
I have seen a high percentage that were bad between my two cars and looking for spares in the junkyards; many have burnt areas visible on the contacts.

I e-mailed you about this roughly a week ago. Wish you had mentioned this controller back then [Image: wink.gif] [Image: wink.gif] Found it, pulled it, one contact inside is charred real good. Thanks again mike. Now to find a replacement.

Sorry about the oversight. My mind was kinda tied up in the switches and IVRs about then, since both of mine are reading high - one due to IVR and other due to too high of a thermostat.
I have had to get replacements at the local salvage yards. I don't know if any of the cars their still have any good ones, though, since I grab 'em (and have had to use them) if I find a good one. Luckily, they are easy to pull.

That's O.K. Mike,
Just couldn't resist giving you a bad time though. I feel like I know you since I've been reading posts for 2 months now and also e-mailed you. Picked up a new one at a place called ALL PRO auto parts. It's a large warehouse that distributes and also sells retail. He had to call Ford as the # on the part would not cross reference to any other manu. Turns out it has been changed (updated) 4 times. The part # listed on the sales receipt is FOR 37506. The part is made by TRW. Cost $33.00 Thanks again!!!!

You're going to post that in the Parts Numbers Forum for the 85 and 86 cars, right?
I can't believe I forgot about that relay considering what I went through to find it the first time .
By the way, did that totally fix the problem?

Sure does seem to have fixed that problem, although now I seem to have discovered a few more. My son said he had pulled several fuses because of gremlins so Monday I replaced all of them and tested everything to see what worked and what didn't. Everything appeared to be working so had my wife come out while I tested Lights, signals etc: All worked well, one burnt out turn signal bulb. Just got done testing the rad fan, which, by the way, comes on at exactly 205 according to the wifes handy-dandy meat thermometer, picked up tools because it is 85 in the shade here right now and started back in the house and voila, I have brake lights. Car is no longer turned on so I pulled the fuse and gave up till Monday. Have to go to Sears Point Raceway for the race tomorrow. GM comped the tickets so I ABSOLUTELY have to go. Wife works for GM Dealer: Sorry Guys!!!!!
