Cooling Fans...my fave!

The PO of my car hard wired the cooling fans to be on all the time and unless it's really hot outside I keep the driver side fan unplugged so the engine gets up to normal temp. Recently it's been hot here in Birmingham and I've had both fans going, and the splice the PO did basically melted and came undone.

In my ideal world I'll get the fans working like they should again, but in the meantime, can some of you who have hardwired your fans let me know how you did it? I think the wire the PO spliced into can't handle the current of both fans very well.

Hopefully, I'll figure out how to attach a photo of the current set up.

Fan power circuits must be wired with 10 ga wire, and with 40 Amp relays. Never run both fans off 1 10 ga power and ground wires and 1 40 A relay. Use separate relays and 10 ga wires (both fused at 30 Amps) for each fan. You can trigger the relay coils from the VPWR circuit if you still want them to run constantly, or with switches in the cockpit.

Even in very hot weather the main (pass side) fan should be able to keep the engine cool under most conditions IF the rest of the cooling sustem is up to snuff.

VPWR is the circuit that powers the PCM, injectors, and various other components via the EEC power relay when the key is in START or RUN. Under the hood all VPWR wires are solid red in color.
