cooling fan problem(s)

So when I run the codes, I get the electromotive fan codes (norm and high speed). Now the fans never come on, but I jumped the AC line and run the smaller fan constantly. Also the car will constantly run the idle high at 1100-1200. I'm guessing that the engine thinks the coolant is still cold. So... a coolant temp sensor is the cure, right? Also, the fans run on a KOEO test. So the fans work... just not when it's supposed to.

A couple possibilities on the fans not coming on when they should. A bad ECT, thet don't always set a code. The other is the water outlet on the lower intake. They tend to clog and if that happens then hot water doesn't flow past the ECT and it doesn't report true coolant temp to the EEC. remove hose and clean fitting. I sent you some info on further testing the ECT

Thanks for the info on testing the ECT. I'll bring a vom with me to work and test it out. I'll let you know what the readings are as soon as I get them.

On KOEO test, main (pass side) fan should run during the entire test. Aux fan (driver side one) should only run for about 1 second at the start of the test.

With car running, pull connector off the ECT and short the connector terminals. Both fans should run. If they do, replace ECT, assuming the water passage Pete talked about is clear.
